Bipolar Cannot Be Willed Away
R&B singer and actress Macy Gray, a member of our bipolar community, recently had an experience she’d just soon forget. She got eliminated from The Masked Singer UK.
Eliminated? Macy Gray?!
Dressed as a toad, Gray was exited from the show in favor of a celebrity costumed as a bear. The primary reason? Her distinctive husky voice, which gave her identity away. The judges were inclined to advance the mysterious bear.
Gray stormed off the stage. While she was coaxed to return, she gave curt answers to questions about her experience on the show. Having done well on the American version of the show, she could not hide her disappointment.
Gray, who won a Grammy for her mega hit “I Try,” talked about having suffered from bipolar in a 2016 interview with Psychology Today. In 2013 she claimed she cured herself by “pure will.” That claim was not discussed in the Psychology Today interview.
Gray has failed to show up for scheduled appearances and then often in rough shape. In a 2022 interview, she insisted that she is a vampire. Gray has apparently lost staggering amounts of moneyat card tables. Bipolar disorder cannot be willed away.
